Faculty of Human Ecology

Human Ecology as a field of study encompasses the structure and development of human communities and the ways in which people interact with their environments. Particular emphasis is placed on the needs of people and the resources used to meet these needs.

Students acquire competence through study of selected aspects of the major material resources of the human habitat and of the basic arts and sciences that contribute to an understanding of human development. The educational goals of the curriculum are to provide a basis for students to use, interpret, and adapt information and technology for the benefit of society and to prepare

students for a variety of careers. The tradition of the Faculty as an educational unit concerned with human needs and resources dates back to 1910.

The Faculty of Human Ecology currently includes Departments of: Clothing and Textiles, Family Studies, and Foods and Nutrition. Study in the Faculty offers background that can lead to career opportunities in business and industry, dietetics and institutional administration, education, government and research.
