5 Among the Geological Sciences Electives, all students must complete at least 12 credit hours from List A. In addition, Honours students must complete at least 15 credit hours from List B or from List A not yet completed; Major students must complete at least 6 credit hours from List B or courses from List A not yet completed. NOTE: With departmental approval, students may substitute 6 credit hours of 2000-level or higher courses from other departments in order to satisfy professional registration requirements. See Other, Note 1 below.

6 Students will register for GEOL 3910 and GEOL 4910 in Summer Session. Students should be aware that they are expected to contribute to transportation and accommodation costs. See the departmental office at the beginning of each year for information.

7 IMPORTANT: The Honours and Major programs need not be completed in the manner prescribed in the chart above. The chart indicates one possible arrangement of the required courses and is meant to be a guide around which students can plan their program. (Letters in brackets indicate the minimum prerequisite standing required for further study).

8 Students who have GEOL 1440 (007.144) or the former 007.124 should consult with the department. At the discretion of the department, GEOL 1440 (007.144) or 007.124 may be permitted in lieu of GEOL 1340 for entry.

  • To fulfil prerequisite requirements, a grade of "C" must be achieved in any course stipulated as prerequisite to a further course in Geological Sciences.
  • All courses are not offered every year. The course schedule for the current academic session is available from the online calendar at umanitoba.ca/calendar
  • Students registering in certain courses may be required to pay a portion of the costs associated with field trips. For details, contact the department general office.
  • Equivalent courses offered through Collége universitaire de Saint- Boniface may be used in lieu of the specified courses identified in the degree program chart. Collége universitaire de Saint-Boniface courses end in the number "1" (e.g. CHEM 1301).
