Eligibility The Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada is committed to fostering the next generation of reseachers and analysts. To that end, it offers up to five one-year fellowships for recent Master's and Doctoral graduates whose academic background and professional goals include policy-relevant issued in the contemporary Asia Pacific. The Foundation welcomes applications from graduates in the social sciences, humanities, business, statistics, natural sciences and otehr academic and professional programs.
Post-Graduate Research Fellows are based at our downtown Vancouver offices and divide their time between a self-directed research project on Canada-Asis relations (or other Asia-related topics with clear Canadian policy implications) and the Foundation's other activities.
Applicants must be Canadian citizens or landed immigrants and must have completed a Master's or Doctoral program no more than 18 months prior to the application deadline.

    Eligibility In memory ofBabs Asper (B.A./54), Dr. Arthur V. Mauro has established an endowment fund at the University of Manitoba, with an initial gift in 2011.
    The fund will be used to offer a scholarship for students in the Arthur V. Mauro Centre for Peace and Justice who embody public service based on a record of community service. The available annual interest from the fund will be used to offer one scholarship to a student who:
  • is enrolled full-time in the Faculty of Graduate Studies, in the first year of eitherthe Joint M.A. in Peace and Conflict Studies or the Ph.D. in Peace and Conflict Studies;
  • has achieved a minimum degree grade point average of 3.5 (or equivalent) based on the last 60 credit hours of study (or equivalent);
  • embodies public service based on a demonstrated record of community service.
    The Scholarship is renewable for one year for Master's students, and up to three years for Doctoral students provided that the recipient:
  • continues to be registered full-time in the Faculty of Graduate Studies, in either the Joint M.A. in Peace and Conflict Studies or the Ph.D. in Peace and Conflict Studies;
  • maintains a minimum degree grade point average of 3.5 (or equivalent) based on the last 60 credit hours of study (or equivalent);
  • is in good standing in his or her degree program.

    Eligibility Mrs. Ruther Asper (B.P.E/'81, B.R.S/'83) has established an endowment fund at the University of Manitoba to provide two scholarships of equal value, to graduate students pursuing studies in physical education, kinesiology, and fitness. Ninety percent of the available annual interest earned on the fund shall be used to offer scholarships to graduate students who:
  • are enrolled as full-time students in the first year of the Master of Science (Kinesiology and Recreation, the Master of Arts (Kinesiology and Recreation, or the Ph.D. in Applied Health Sciences under the supervision of a professor in the Faculty of Kinesiology and Recreation Management;

    Eligibility The family, friends and colleagues of Dr. Clarence Barber have contributed to establish and endowment fund in his memory that is initially. Dr. Barber joined the University of Manitoba in September 1949 where he remained until his retirement in 1983. During his tenure, from 1963 until 1972 he served as Head of the Department of Economics.     Eligibility A fund has been established at the University of Manitoba by James W. Barlow (B.Sc./39) in commemoration of his retirement after a long professional career in teh food industry culminating as owner and president of Bariatrix International Inc., a company specializaing in nutritionally balanced diet premixes. His contribution of $50,000 has been generously matched from the Graduate Fellowship Matching Funds Program to establish a fund of $100,000 to provide a graduate fellowship in the Department of Food Science in the Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences.
    The fund is to be awarded each year to a student who:
  • is enrolled in the M.Sc. program in the Department of Food Science or, in the same department, in the interdepartmental Ph.D. program in Food and Nutritional Sciences;
  • will conduct thesis research in the discipline of food science; and,
  • has achieved high standing (3.5 AGPA or higher) in the last two years of an undergraduate and/or graduate program.

  • The fellowship is to be awarded by annual application but can be awarded to the same student for two consecutive years in the case of an M.Sc. or for three consecutive years in the case of a Ph.D. student.

    Eligibility An endowment fund has been established in the name of Murray Gordon Bell by his family, friends, and colleagues. Dr. Bell died suddently in December 2001 while in the middle of an already distinguished career. The purpose of this award is to encourage excellence in graduate studies in mathematics at the University of Manitoba, especially pure mathematics. the particular enthusiasm of Dr. Bell.
    The award will be offered to a graduate student who:
  • is commending study as a full-time student in the Faculty of Graduate Studies as the University of Manitoba, in the Master's of Ph.D. program in the Department of Mathematics.
  • as a Master's student, achieved a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.5 in the last 60 credit hours complete in their undergraduate program or, as a Ph.D. student, achieved a minimum cumulative grade point average on 3.75 in their Master's program.
  • as a continuing student, is in good standing in their current program of study.

  • Preference will be given to studens pursuing study in the area of pure mathematics. This award may be held with other awards, bursaries, scholarships, prizes, and fellowships. If an award is not made in a given yer, the available annual interest will be added to the capitcal fo the endowment.
