Eligibility	The Buggey family has established an endowment fund at the University of Manitoba to offer the Leslie F. Buggey Graduate Scholarship in Pharmacy. The Manitoba Scholarship and Bursary Initiative has made a contribution to this fund. The purpose of the fund is to support graduat students conducting a research project exclusively in the Faculty of Pharmacy. Each year, the available annual income from the fund will be used to offer one scholarship with a maximum value of $10,000 to a graduate student who: is enrolled as a full-time Master's or Ph.D. student in any year of study in the Faculty of Graduate Studies and whose research project is conducted exclusively in the Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Manitoba; has achieved a minimum degree grade point average of 3.5 in the last two years of their previous program of study. Preference will be given to candidates in the following decending order: (1) Pharmacy graduates - B.Sc. (Pharm.) or M.Sc. from the University of Manitoba; (2) other graduates from the University of Manitoba; (3) graduates from other universities The scholarship is not tenable with other major awards of $15,000 or more. The scholarship will not be given to the same candidate more than once unless the donor provides consent. The Faculty of Pharmacy will offer a commemorative medallion, which will be presented to the recipient at the annual Faculty of Pharmacy Graduate ceremony. In any year in which there is no eligible candidate the value of the scholarship will be re-capitalized.

Eligibility	Friends and colleagues of Neil Burgess have established an endowment fund to provide an annual graduate scholarship at the University of Manitoba in the Faculty of Engineering. Neil Burgess was a professional engineer practising geotechnical engineering until his untimely death in September, 1995. There shall be one award annually. The award may be renewed for one year; renewal will be subject to a satisfactory progress report from the recipient's advisor and department, including a GPA of at leat 3.5. The scholarship shall be awarded to a full-time M.Sc. or Ph.D. student in the Department of Civil Engineering. The successful student's research shall be in the field of geotechnical engineering.

This award has been established in the 125th anniversary year of the University of Manitoba. These awards shall be available beginning in 2003. Of the available annual income, $10,000 shall provide for an entrance fellowship for a student who: (1) has been admitted to the first year of the PhD graduate program in the Department of History at The University of Manitoba; (2) has achieved a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.50 over the equivalent of the last two completed years of study (minimum 12 credit hours in a graduate program). If there is no qualified candidate, then the fellowship may be awarded to a candidate in a subsequent year of the PhD program. A fellowship valued at $6,000 shall be offered to a student who: (1) is a candidate for PhD in the graduate program in the Department of History at The University of Manitoba and has completed the comprehensive exam; (2) expects to complete the required dissertation for the PhD graduate program in the Department of History in the academic session in which this award is tenable; (3) has achieved a minimum grade point average of 3.50 based on a minimum 12 credit hours of completed doctoral course work. Two entrance fellowships valued at $8,000 each shall be offered to students who: (1) have been admitted to the first year of the Masters graduate program in the Department of History at The University of Manitoba; (2) have achieved a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.50 over the equivalent of the last two completed years of study (minimum 48 credit hours in the undergraduate program). A final amount of $3,000 shall be directed for such items as graduate student travel to archives and to provide matching funds for fellowships funded by other granting agencies. Preference will be given to: (1) full-time graduate students in good standing and enroled full-time in a Masters or PhD program in the Department of History. The distribution of funds for student travel and top-up matching will be left to the discretion of the selection committee. The selection committee shall be named by the Head of the Department of History.

Eligibility	Through a testamentary gift from Margaret Mary Burns, a fund has been established at The University of Manitoba to provide support to graduate students in Social Work at the University. Ms. Burns was born and raised in Winnipeg and received her undergraduate education from The University of Manitoba, before the Social Work program was established here. She studied Social Work at Columbia University in New York and went on to practice and teach Social Work in the United States, Canada, and abroad. She requested that her gift to the University establish an endowment to be used for the “betterment of the Faculty”. From time to time, portions of the available income from the fund will be utilised, at the discretion of the Dean of the Faculty of Social work, toward library acquisitions for the Faculty. The remainder of the available annual income from the fund (in years when library acquisitions are not funded by the income, the total annual income) is spilt 1/3 for bursary support and 2/3 for scholarship support. Within each of these two categories, funds are disbursed equally between the priority list students (i.e., Aboriginal students, students with disabilities, immigrants, refugees, and visible minorities) and all other students. This fund shall be awarded to students who: are enrolled part-time or full-time in the pre-MSW or MSW program; have achieved satisfactory academic standing (i.e., have met the academic continuation requirements of the program); have outlined their financial need by way of a letter of request for funding submitted to the Graduate Program Committee. Applications for bursary assistance are considered throughout the year and bursaries are awarded when needed, rather than at only one poin in the year when all other bursaries are awarded. Funds allocated for bursary assistance are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis each fiscal year. The scholarships supported by this fund are awarded to graduate students who: are enrolled part-time or full-time in the first year of the MSW of Ph.D. program in Social Work were admitted to the current program with a minimum grade point average of 3.0 Preference will be given, firstly, to students who do not hold other scholarships concurrently and, secondly, to those who were admitted with the highest grade point average.
