Eligibility The Charney Award will next be awarded in 2012 The Alpha Omega Alumnae an organization composed of university women graduates of Ukrainian descent is offering the Charney Award which has been established in the name of its donors, the late Halia Hawryluk Charney and Dr. D.J. Charney, a prominent Ukrainian Canadian couple, active for many years in the professional and cultural life of Manitoba. The award is intended to provide financial support to a worthy graduate student of Ukrainian heritage who is pursuing graduate studies and who will be supportive of the Alpha Omega Alumnae. This is non-renewable award. The recipient will be a student of Ukrainian heritage (at least one parent of Ukrainian heritage) residing in Manitoba, entering full-time studies in a graduate degree program at an accredited Manitoba university. In making the award, these specific criteria will be considered:
  • Minimum GPA of 3.75 (copy of transcript to be provided) in the final year of the study in a bachelors degree program or previous year in a masters degree program
  • two academic references
  • an official letter of acceptance from the Faculty of Graduate Studies (a photocopy is acceptable)
  • involvement in university, community and cultural life
  • be supportive of the goals of the Alpha Omega Alunmae e.g. submit or present a report summarizing graduate work (upon completion)
Note: if a suitable candidate is not found in a given year, the award may not be granted.
