Dr. James Clayton Gilson served The University of Manitoba as Head of the Department of Agricultural Economics, Dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Vice President (Academic). His ability as a teacher and researcher was recognized in 1981 when he was The University of Manitoba Distinguished Professor. However, Dr. Gilson’s reputation goes far beyond the University boundaries due to his exceptional ability to apply his research and scholarship to assist the agribusiness community.
Upon the retirement of Dr. James Clayton Gilson, his colleagues, alumni, friends and family established a fund for the purpose of offering a graduate student fellowship in agribusiness for a prospective Master of Science student in Agricultural Economics.
The award renewable for one year (upon satisfactory progress) will be granted to an outstanding student beginning Master of Science study in the Department of Agricultural Economics at the University of Manitoba.
The fellowship will be offered to a student who:
is entering the Master of Science program in the Department of Agricultural Economics as a full-time student;
has an outstanding record of academic achievement (minimum G.P.A. 3.5);
demonstrates a research interest (thesis topic) in the area of agricultural business.
