Eligibility Mrs. Thorsteinn Gislason has to a fund to establish a scholarship (or scholarships) in memory of her late husband.
For the time being the scholarship shall be awarded at the discretion of the Head of the Department of Icelandic, to a promising candidate who presents himself /herself to the Head of the Department of Icelandic by May 1st and who intends to enrol in the next ensuing annual session, for a full program of graduate studies at The University of Manitoba, in Icelandic or including a course at the graduate level in Icelandic.
If, in the opinion of the Head of the Department of Icelandic, no suitable candidate presents himself/herself by May 1st, or if the winner chosen to hold the award at the graduate level does not enrol as required above, the scholarship shall be awarded to the undergraduate student at The University of Manitoba who:
  • attains the highest standing (minimum grade point average of 2.75 required) in a Intermediate Icelandic, course 121; or if there is no eligible candidate;
  • attains the highest standing (minimum grade point average of 2.75 required) in Introductory Icelandic, course 90.

  • The recipient of the scholarship when awarded at the undergraduate level must enrol for a full normal program of studies at The University of Manitoba in the next ensuing annual session. If the recipient does not so enrol the scholarship shall revert to the next qualified candidate. This scholarship is tenable with other awards.
