Eligibility	In memory of Joan, an award has been established at the University of Manitoba. The fund will be used to offer one prize to a graduate student who, in the twelve month period preceding the awarding of the prize, has successfully defended and excellent thesis as part of the requirements of either an M.A. or Ph.D. in French. In any year in which, in the judgement of the selection committee, no suitable thesis has been defended, no award need be made.
