Eligibility A prize award fund has been established at The University of Manitoba in memory of Mr. Charles E. L'Ami, longtime editor, author, broadcaster, and friend of the University. The prize began in the spring of 1982 and was initially valued at $500. Beginning in 2001, the prize is valued at the available annual income from the fund and is offered to a student who:
  • has been registered, in the academic year for which the prize is awarded, at the University of Manitoba in any Faculty or School;
  • has demonstrated oustanding achievement in Slavic Studies

  • Preference in selection shall be given to a student who has shown outstanding achievement in the study of the literature of Michael Lermontov.
    In any one year in which, in the judgement of the selection committee, there is no candidate of sufficient merit, no prize award need be made. The state of the fund will be reviewed regularly and, if earnings permit, the value of the prize may be increased.
