Eligibility Peter M. Luba offers to provide an annual award to The University of Manitoba as an incentive to students in the Faculty of Education to develop innovative instruction methods in mathematics. Mr. Luba taught mathematics in Manitoba schools and worked in the province's Department of Education, specializing in mathematics education. The award is offered each year to a student:
  • who is enrolled (or who will enroll) in either the Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Education Program (in the area of Curriculum and Instruction) or as a graduate student in a Master's or Ph.D. program in the Department of Curriculum: Mathematics and natural Sciences); and,
  • whose specific area of study includes new developments in the instruction of mathematics (including the use of innovative and creative methods to guide, stimulate and encourage the efforts of students with varying abilities in mathematics) or the use of materials to create a motivational learning environment for mathematics. No award shall be made in those years when no eligible candidate can be found.
