A fund has been established at the University of Manitoba in memory of Dr. Ralph A. Mann. Contributions to the fund have been made by family, friends and colleagues of Dr. Mann, who was Director of Rehabilitation Engineering at the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba and also served as Assistant Professor in the Departments of Surgery and Human Anatomy and Cell Science at the University of Manitoba. This fund was established to assist graduate students in the Department of Human Anatomy and Cell Science.
The available annual interest on this fund will support, in perpetuity, two graduate awards annually, one in the MSc programme and another in the PhD programme. The recipient may only hold this scholarship once in each of the two degree programmes. One award will be offered to a student who:
is enrolled as a full-time student in the Faculty of Graduate Studies and has completed at least one academic year of the MSc programme in the Department of Human Anatomy and Cell Science;
has achieved a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.5 on all courses completed in the Faculty of Graduate Studies;
is in the process of conducting research in the Department;
has excelled in presenting this research in a seminar format; and
has supplied the selection committee with two letters of reference that address academic prowess and research potential.
The second award will be offered to a student who:
is enrolled as a full-time student in the Faculty of Graduate Studies in the PhD programme in the Department of Human Anatomy and Cell Science and has not yet completed the PhD candidacy exam;
has achieved a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.5 on all courses completed in the Faculty of Graduate Studies;
has demonstrated research productivity in the field of human anatomy and cell science through presentations at meetings and through publications in reputable journals; and
has supplied the selection committee with two letters of reference that address academic prowess and research potential.
In any year where there are no meritorious applicants at either or one of the Masters or Ph.D. level, the selection committee for this award may choose not to offer the award at that level and/or may offer two awards at the other level. |
