Eligibility The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (Monbukagakusho a.k.a. MEXT) of the Government of Japan offers scholarships to foreign students who wish to study at Japanese universities visit http://www.studyjapan.go.jp/en/toj/toj0307e.html Applicants must have been born between April 2, 1981 and April 1, 1993 (for the 2011 scholarship year). The term of this scholarship is approximately one year, beginning in October 2011. Those wishing to pursue an intensive study of the Japanese language and an introduction to Japanese Studies must be an undergraduate student at a foreign (non-Japanese) university majoring in fields related to the Japanese language or culture. Applicants must have sufficient Japanese language ability in order to study at a Japanese university where the language of instruction is Japanese. The allowance in 2009 was 125,000 yen per month (subject to change).
