Eligibility |
This fellowship has been established by Betty A. Nicks (B.A./28, B.Ed./38, M.Ed/48) to recognize and support academic excellence in graduate study in Education at The University of Manitoba. It is first to be awarded for the 1996-97 academic session, provided interest income reaches $3,000. The maximum value of this award is to be set at the maximum allowed for “top-up” (supplementary) awards in the University of Manitoba Graduate Fellowship (UMGF) competition (currently $6,000); when interest income exceeds this amount, two or more awards may be offered. The Manitoba Scholarships and Bursaries Initiative has made a contribution to this fund.
The fellowship will be awarded to a student who is pursuing a Master of Education degree and who holds an undergraduate degree in Education and/or a teaching certificate. Preference will be given to full-time graduate students. Selection will be based on academic merit (minimum grade point average of 3.6 on the last 60 credit hours) and professional, non-paid contributions to extra-curricular school activities, professional committees, etc., occurring in the two years prior to application for this award. The fellowship is renewable for a one-year period if the recipient continues to make outstanding progress (minimum grade point average of 3.6 and/or a satisfactory progress report). The fellowship may be offered as a “top-up” (supplementary) award to a UMGF recipient or as a “stand alone” (independent) award. |
