Name POUNDER, THOMAS J. MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

Eligibility A fund in the amount of about $70,000 has been established with The University of Manitoba in memory of Thomas J. Pounder. (Mr. Pounder, who graduated from the University in 1928 with a degree in Electrical Engineering, was interested in road-building in central and western Canada, especially in pavement construction and maintenance.)
The available annual interest* income earned over two years may be disbursed every second year. The scholarship is to be valued at $8,000 when it is first offered in September, 1989. The scholarship may be held with other awards totalling not more than 50 percent of its value.
The scholarship is to be awarded to a graduate student who:
  • is working in aspects of the design, construction, maintenance and management of highway and airport pavements, with emphasis on practical application in Manitoba;
  • shows promise of making a worthwhile contribution to society through his/her work.
