IMPORTANT NOTE:The SSHRC Online System does not allow institutions to enter their internal CGRS-D application deadline, which means the portal will allow applicants to submit their application past the University of Manitoba's internal deadline. However, other Tri-Agency portals do not allow applicants to submit an application late, therefore, to ensure fairness across all three competitions (CIHR, NSERC, and SSHRC), late application are automatically deemed ineligible.
SSHRC and the University of Manitoba strongly encourages applicants to submit applications ahead of the deadline date. Typically, the SSHRC Online System handles a very high volume of users on the last day, which could create delays and put timely submission at risk. Late applications will be deemed ineligible and will not be considered for the competition.

FACULTY OF GRADUATE & POSTDOCTORAL STUDIES STATEMENT ON TRANSCRIPTS:
Students are responsible for obtaining OFFICIAL, up-to-date, and complete transcripts for all post-secondary institutions attended and attaching them to their Tri-Agency award application. This includes all undergraduate and graduate studies, completed or ongoing. ONLY official transcripts will be accepted; web or unofficial transcripts will not be accepted and will result in an application being ineligible for the competition.
The following documents must also be included in their application:
Transcripts associated with transfer credits
The transcript key/legend for each institution
An official University of Manitoba transcript showing Fall 2026 registration is required, regardless of whether or not grades are displayed
The Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies does not provide students with copies of transcripts from student records or copies of previously submitted transcripts. This includes transcripts from other Canadian or international post-secondary institutions, UManitoba, and transcripts submitted as part of previous or current admission or award applications.
For transcripts from international institutions ONLY (outside Canada and USA), certified true copies of official transcripts are acceptable. If the transcripts are not presented in one of Canada's two official languages (English or French), a certified translation must be provided, in addition to the official transcripts in its original language. Applicants can contact their home department to request these transcripts.
***Missing, unofficial, illegible, or untranslated transcripts WILL deem students’ applications incomplete or ineligible and will not be considered for the competition***.
SSHRC TRANSCRIPT INSTRUCTIONS
Upload, as one single PDF document, up-to-date OFFICIAL transcripts of all undergraduate and graduate studies. Transcript text must be horizontal and include one copy of the transcript legend key.
Up-to-date official transcripts are defined as transcripts issued by the Registrar’s Office and dated or issued in the fall session of the year of application (if currently enrolled) or after the last term completed (if not currently enrolled). Opening the envelope to scan the transcript WILL NOT render it unofficial.
Retain the paper copy of any uploaded transcripts, as applicants could be asked to provide it for verification purposes.
INDIGENOUS STUDENT RESEARCHERS
The Indigenous Scholars Awards and Supplements Pilot Initiative provides financial support to meritorious Indigenous students (First Nations, Inuit and Metis) whose nations or communities are located in Canada and have applied to the CGRS-D program. To the limit of available funding, Indigenous students who are successful in the CGRS-D competition will be offered the Indigenous Scholars Supplement valued at $5,000 for one year. Additional CGRS-D awards and supplements may be offered to select meritorious applicants who have not been offered an award this competition.
The Tri-Agency Policy on Indigenous Citizenship and Membership Affirmation and the associated directive apply to these awards and supplements; successful applicants must provide documentation as outlined in the Policy and Directive.

***IMPORTANT NOTE: Institutions are permitted to recommend an unlimited number of applications from self-identified Indigenous student researchers to the CGRS-D program above their application quota. However, Indigenous student researchers are still required to meet all eligibility criteria for the CGRS-D program and submit a complete application including all required materials and official transcripts.***
To be considered for this and eligible for the Indigenous Scholars Awards and Supplements Pilot Initiative, Indigenous student researchers must self-identify as Indigenous at the time of application and indicate their agreement with the self-identification and consent statement by selecting the appropriate check box in the application.
