Eligibility To honour her late brother, Dr. Max (Bud) Wachnow, the late Frances Wachnow made testamentary provision for a gift of $7,500 to The University of Manitoba with the stipulation that an amount up to the annual income be used for awards "to such person or persons in such amounts for the advancement in knowledge of Orthodontics, as the Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry, from time to time, in his sole and absolute discretion shall decide." The award will normally be given to a student or to students in the graduate program in Orthodontics according to the following criteria: demonstrated clinical competence, care of patients, research activity, theoretical knowledge, interest in a teaching and/or research career. Normally, the first charge against the earnings of the fund in any given year will be the travel and accommodation expenses of the recipient(s) to attend:
  • the annual meeting of the International Association for Dental Research, or
  • the annual meeting of the American Association of Orthodontics; or,
  • the annual meeting of any other similar organization as approved by the Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry.
  • Value 70% of annual earnings of fund.
