The Faculty of Graduate Studies allocates funds to assist Master's and Ph.D. students with costs for travel for presentations of papers, posters, or other
creative work pertinent to their studies. Approved events include conferences, major festivals or other artistic events sponsored by recognized national or
international organizations.
It is incumbent on the individual traveling to be aware of the risks when traveling. If you are traveling abroad, ensure you visit the Department of Foreign
Affairs and International Trade (DFAIT) web site for details on the country to which you are traveling.

Applicants who receive funding are asked to acknowledge the support of the Faculty of Graduate Studies.
Eligibility
Applicants must be students in good standing, registered and enrolled full-time in a Masters or Ph.D. program at the time of the event.
Applicants must have achieved a minimum degree grade point average (GPA) of 3.5 in the last 60 credit hours of study (or equivalent) and are in good standing.
Students may not receive funding more than once at the Masters level or more than twice at the Ph.D. level.
Papers / posters must be relevant to your program of study for presentation at a conference, festival or competition in the case of
creative output endeavours, of a recognized national or international organization.
Students with a GPA of 3.50+ in the most recent 60 credit hours of study are eligible for the FGS Travel Award.
Students with a GPA of 3.00-3.49 in the most recent 60 credit hours are eligible for the FGS Travel Grant.

Application Details |
Students may apply prior to departing to attend the conference and up to one month after the last day of the conference.
For example, if the last day of the conference is the 15th the student has until the 15th of the following month to apply online with all supporting documentation attached. Allow up to three weeks for processing.
All applications are to be done online with the below supporting documentation with original signatures scanned to file and attached to the online application. No paper copies will be accepted for application - your application must be done online at the link below.

Please make sure you fill out each of the forms below, have them signed, and attached to your online application with the original signatures.
1) Confirmation that your paper or poster has been accepted by the conference organizers.
2) A one page abstract of paper/poster being presented.

When you send your online application in, it is automatically sent to graduate.awards@umanitoba.ca where it will be evaluated. If you do not receive a confirmation email that your online application was accepted, please check your junk e-mail folder, as it may have ended up there.
NOTE: when submitting your online application, please ensure the location of where your conference is being held is correct!
