Family and friends of Michael S. Doyle, Ph.D., have established a fund at The University of Manitoba in his memory. The Manitoba Scholarships and Bursaries Initiative has made a contribution to this fund. Michael S. Doyle was a Professor of Computer Science at The University of Manitoba from 1972 until his death in 1997. Among his colleagues, he is remembered for his rapport both with them and with students and for his sense of humour. He was a key figure in the Computer Science Department, having founded the Co-op Program and having served frequently as the Acting Head of the Department. The purpose of this fund in Professor Doyle’s memory is to assist graduate students pursuing a Masters degree (with thesis) in the Department of Computer Science.
The fund will support an award that will be offered to a student who:
is enrolled as a full-time graduate student in the Faculty of Graduate Studies, in the first or second year of the Master of Science program in the Department of Computer Science (program must include a thesis);
has achieved a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.5 (or equivalent) on all courses completed in the degree used for qualification for admission to the graduate program, and has maintained a 3.5 average on courses completed in the graduate program.
This fellowship is intended for a student who does not already hold other awards totalling more than The University of Manitoba Graduate Fellowship. |
