Eligibility Mindel Olenick and Tom Olenick, along with a match from the Manitoba Scholarship and Bursary Initiative, have established a fellowship at The University of Manitoba to support excellent graduate students in the field of Human Genetics. Mindel Olenick received her B.Sc. from the University in 1945. Her husband, Tom, received his B.Sc. from the University in 1943 and a B.A. in 1944. The Olenicks are proud that their three children are also graduates of The University of Manitoba. Each year, the available annual income from the fund will support one award which will be offered to a student who:
  • is enrolled full-time as a graduate student in the Department of Biochemistry and Medical Genetics* at The University of Manitoba, either at the Masters or Doctoral level;
  • has achieved high academic standing (minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or equivalent)
  • has proposed to conduct or is already conducting laboratory research in the area of Human Genetics, specifically in the fields of cytogenetics, immunogenetics, somatic cell genetics, biochemical genetics, or molecular genetics.

  • This fellowship is renewable over the course of one degree (i.e., cannot be carried upon completion of the Masters degree to the Ph.D. program). Award recipients will be considered for a renewal each year in competition with new eligible candidates.
