Eligibility Through a testamentary gift from James Gordon Fletcher, a graduate of Agricultural and Food Sciences at the University of Manitoba, a fund has been established at the University to support graduate fellowships. This fund will specifically serve to stimulate, support, and encourage research in Indigenous issues by Ph.D. students in any Department at the University of Manitoba.

Fellowships will be offered to a student who:

1) is enrolled full-time in a Ph.D. program in the Faculty of Graduate Studies at the University of Manitoba and has been in this program for less than four years at the time when this fellowship is offered;

2) has achieved a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.75 over the two regular academic years prior to the session in which this fellowship is tenable;

3) is conducting research in a field pertaining to Indigenous communities and persons.

The top applicant will be selected on the basis of academic excellence, commitment to the field of study, the quality and value of the research proposal, and their career objectives.

NOTE: This fellowship competition is for an award for the 2023-2024 academic year. The selected recipient must meet the above criteria, including intending to register full time in both the Fall 2023 and Winter 2024 terms in order to be eligible for the 2023-24 fellowship.

2) A research proposal (maximum 4 pages, double spaced, 11 point font);

3) A full curriculum vitae;

4) Two academic letters of support.

The selection committee shall be named by the Dean (or designate) of the Faculty of Graduate Studies.
