Eligibility As a memorial to his parents, Joseph and Ilona Hirsch, and to his brother, Stefan, who died at Auschwitz in 1944, Dr. John Hirsch offers to establish a scholarship at The University of Manitoba.
The scholarship, today valued at the available annual income, shall be awarded for an outstanding piece of creative writing--a short story, poem, play, descriptive sketch, familiar essay, or other kinds of writing acceptable to the selection committee. The recipient must be registered at the time of his submission of work as a full-time undergraduate or graduate* student of The University of Manitoba, must continue as a full-time student in the year in which the scholarship is tenable, and must achieve high academic standing minimum 3.5 degree grade point average. *Preference in selection shall always be given to undergraduate students.
