Eligibility Through a gift from the Wildlife Society - Manitoba Chapter Inc., and a contribution from the Manitoba Scholarship and Bursary Initiative, an endowment fund has been established at the University of Manitoba in memory of Richard C. Goulden. This fund honours his lifelong commitment to the wildlife and other natural resources of the Province of Manitoba. The fund will support an annual award which will recognize graduate students whose research contributes to the overall knowledge of wildlife and/or their habitats in Manitoba.

Each year, the available annual income will be used to offer one or more scholarships to graduate students who:
  • are enrolled full-time in both Fall 2025 and Winter 2026 terms in the Faculty of Graduate & Postdoctoral Studies at the University of Manitoba in a Masters or Ph.D. program;
  • have achieved a minimum grade point average of 3.5 based on the last 60 credit hours (or equivalent) of study;
  • are members of The Wildlife Society - Manitoba Chapter Inc. at the time of receipt;
  • are conducting research or have proposed to conduct research on wildlife and/or their habitats in Manitoba;
  • are deemed by the selection committee to have submitted the top research proposal among the award applicants.
The recipient's name will be announced at The Wildlife Society - Manitoba Chapter Inc. Annual General Meeting in March 2026. The recipient will be expected to make a presentation on his/her research at The Wildlife Society - Manitoba Chapter Inc. event in the year following receipt of the scholarship.

1. A copy of their research proposal;

2. Proof of membership in The Wildlife Society - Manitoba Chapter Inc.; and

3. A current academic transcript. ONLY transcripts from other post-secondary institutions have to be uploaded manually. Once the application is submitted, the system will automatically generate the UM transcripts
