The Howard Hughes Medical Institute grants support promising biomedical research scientists working outside the United States, medical, dental and veterinary students seeking research training, and leading research scientists who are developing new approached to undergraduate science education. Medical Research Fellows Program supports a year of full-time biomedical research training for medical, dental, and veterinary students. Applicants must be enrolled in a medical, dental, or veterinary school in the United States. Fellows must be able to start their research year between June 1, 2011 and September 1, 2011. Application deadline: January 11 International Student Research Fellowships support outstanding international predoctoral students studying in the United States who are ineligible for fellowships or training grants through U.S. federal agencies. * Students must be in the 3rd or 4th year of a PhD program in the biomedical or related sciences at a designated nomination institution * students in their 1st, 2nd or 5th year of their PhD program cannot activate the fellowship * In no case will support past year 5 of the PhD program be provided. The period to nominate students for the 2011 competition has ended. Invited applicants can begin using the system to submit the required application materials December 13, 2010. Gillam Fellowships for Advanced Study For students who have participated in the Exceptional Research Opportunities Program of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, HHMI offers extraordinary opportunity to pursue graduate studies in the life sciences. Eligibility: * past participants in the HHMI Exceptional Research Opportunities Program (EXROP); must be graduating seniors or recent baccalaureate recipients (within two years) who have completed no more than one year of PhD training * former EXROP students pursuing an MD/PhD degree may apply, but fellowship supports only PhD portion of the studies * no citizenship requirement |
