Eligibility |
Faculty and alumni of the Department of Sociology have established a fund at the University of Manitoba to offer scholarships for Sociology graduate students. The available income from the fund will be used to offer one or more scholarships to graduate students who:
have applied by the January deadline for admission
subsequently enroll in the first year of study in either the Master's or the PhD program in the Department of Sociology
have achieved a minimum degree grade point average of 3.5 (or equivalent) based on the last 60 credit hours
have achieved a minimum degree grade point average of 3.5 (or equivalent)) based on the last 60 credit hours
are judged by the selection committee to have demonstrated strong potential in their proposed area of thesis research.
The selection committee will have the discretion to determine the number and value of scholarships offered each year, based on the avialbe funding. Candidates will be assessed based on the quality of the statement of purpose, letters of reference, and, in the case of PhD applicants, the assessment by the Area Committee. Alternate candidates shall be selected should one or more of the recipients fail to enter the program or fail to accept the scholarship. In the event no eligible candidate is found, the funds will be carried over to be awarded in future competitions. |
