Eligibility Dr. Lois M. Brockman established an endowment fund at the University of Manitoba in 2006. The purpose of the fellowship is to encourage the development of professionals who are prepared and dedicated to fostering wholesome development of children through research. The fellowship provides financial assistance to graduate students for master's thesis or doctoral dissertation research that pertains to the development of the child (birth to 12 years).

Each year, the available annual income from the fund will be used to offer one or more fellowships to graduate students who:

(1) are enrolled full-time in both the Fall 2025 and Winter 2026 terms in the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies in any master's or doctoral program offered at the University of Manitoba;

(2) have achieved a minimum grade point average of 3.5 based on the last 60 credit hours (or equivalent) of study;

(3) have completed all of the course requirements for their graduate degree and are currently pursuing their master's thesis or doctoral dissertation on a full-time basis;

(4) are pursuing master's thesis or doctoral dissertation research that pertains to the development of the child (birth to 12 years).

The selection committee will be named by the Dean of the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies, and will include three faculty members: one child developmental professional from three different departments in which child development or developmental psychology is taught. The Dean of the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies (or designate) will serve as Chair.

Theses or dissertations and publications that have been assisted by the Lois M. Brockman Graduate Student Research Fellowship in the Area of Child Development are expected to acknowledge the support received.

2. A thesis or dissertation proposal (maximum 1200 words)

3. A budget of costs related to the research proposed

4. One (1) letter of reference from student's supervisor
