Eligibility The Manitoba Training Program for Health Services Research (MTP-HSR), formerly the Western Regional Training Centre (WRTC), offers applied health services research training opportunities to graduate students from a wide variety of disciplines, empowering them to address the research needs of a wide range of health-care policy makers.

This innovative, applied training program was developed to train health services researchers across disciplines, sectors, and institutions, and is offered to thesis-based Masters and PhD students for one year. Preference will be given to students in their first or second year of training.

The Manitoba Training Program is funded by Manitoba Health, Seniors and Active Living and provides student with annual fellowship stipends in addition to the applied training they receive through seminar instruction and paid field placements.

Training Requirements:
MTP students must complete the following training activities, in addition to those required by their respective graduate programs:
  • Successfully complete two courses in health research and health policy: CHSC 7320 and one of either CHSC 7300 or CHSC 7310
  • Successfully complete MTP seminar course, CHSC 7730
  • Attendance at one of the knowledge translational workshops offered by Manitoba Centre for Health Policy.
  • Attendance at the annual conference of the Canadian Association for Health Services and Policy Research (CAHSPR)
  • Field placement
  • Value MTP fellowships offer $17,850 to Master’s students and $22,500 to PhD students annually.
