An endowment fund has been established at the University of Manitoba, with an initial contribution of $250,000 from the President's Fund, to offer scholarships to Indigenous students in the Faculty of Graduate Studies. The endowment was established to provide matching funds to encourage private donors to contribute to the Scholarship as a way to promote Indigenous students pursuing graduate-level study. The available annual income from the fund will be used to offer one scholarship to a graduate student who:
1. Is Canadian Indigenous (First Nations, Metis, Inuit)
2. Is enrolled full-time in the Faculty of Graduate Studies in the first four years of any Doctoral program or the first two years of any Masters program
3. Has achieved a minimum degree grade point average of 3.0 (or equivalent) based on the last 60 credit hours of study
4. Is a continuing student, and is in good standing in a degree program
Preference will be given to Doctoral students. In any year that no Doctoral student meets the selection criteria set out in the preceding paragraphs, the Scholarship will then be offered to a Masters student.
Recipients may hold the President's Graduate Scholarship concurrently with any other awards, consistent with policies in the Faculty of Graduate Studies. The scholarship may not be held with a fellowship from the Ph.D. Studies for Aboriginal Scholars (PSAS) Fund.
