Eligibility Following both an internal and external review and in light of changing sources of funding available, AMS has suspended its doctoral and postdoctoral fellowships, development grants and conference grant. No competitive grants will be offered beyond 2011. Since its incorporation in 1937 AMS has been making a significant contribution to the health and health care of Canadian society. AMS’s role as a health care provider concluded on October 1, 1969 after the province of Ontario joined the national Medicare program. When AMS's role as a health care provider ceased, the Government of Ontario permitted the corporation to use its remaining reserve fund for charitable purposes. Hannah Junior General Scholarship are open to students who show exceptional promise and demonstrate a career interest in the history of medicine and who have completed a MA and are already enrolled/actively engaged in a PhD program or the PhD portion of combined MA/PhD program or a combined MD/PhD program. Its purpose is to support excellence in medical history at the graduate level. Any area of research in the history of health, disease, or medicine,broadly defined. Funding in the form of a stipend in the amount of $17,700. For the MD, or an equivalent degree, funding will be at the current Fellowship stipend of $35,000. Successful applicants will also receive a research and travel allowance of $3,000. Hannah Senior General Scholarship Hannah Senior General Scholarships are open to students who have already completed their first year of doctoral studies in a PhD, combined MA/PhD or combined MD/PhD program. Candidates will be judged on their track record and the scholarly merit of their research program. Up to four Hannah Senior General Scholarships may be awarded in any competition. Its purpose is to support excellence in medical history at the graduate level. Any area of research in the history of health, disease, or medicine, broadly defined. Funding in the form of a stipend in the amount of $17,700. For the MD, or an equivalent degree, funding will be at the current Fellowship stipend of $35,000. Successful applicants will also receive a research and travel allowance of $3,000.
