Name TRAVEL AND CONFERENCE SPONSORSHIP PROGRAM
Research Fields TEST Travel, Unrestricted
Categories Unrestricted
Citizenship No citizenship available
Eligibility The Travel and Conference Sponsorship Program is designed primarily to support the attraction of conferences to the University of Manitoba. This program also provides funding for travel to conferences that is unusual for which prior planning was not possible. However, travel to attend conferences directly related to research can usually be funded from the research grants of researchers, and is given a lower priority under this program. The Office of the Vice-President (Research and International) administers a UM/SSHRC International Travel Grants Program semi-annually with details at: http://umanitoba.ca/research/ors/internalfunding_deadlines_forms.html
In some circumstances, proposals from student groups who are competing in national or international competitions on behalf of the University and that have the support of their Dean and/or UMSU, can also be provided funds under this program.
Support for travel to conferences by graduate students is not eligible under this program since such travel is usually supported through the Faculty of Graduate Studies, UMSU and/or research grants of professors.
Applications will not be accepted for participation in conferences which will take place prior to the competition deadline date.
A budget of $30K per year ($15K per competition) in support of sponsoring conferences has been allocated. Priority consideration will generally be given as follows: where the University's exposure (in descending order) is international, national, provincial, university-wide, faculty-wide, or departmental; on the level of individual conference participation (e.g., invitation to present a paper); academic value of the conference or activity; and, on the financial support provided by the Department and Deans/Directors' offices.
