Eligibility Friends, family, and colleagues of Dr. Daryl F. Kraft have established the Daryl F. Kraft Memorial Endowment Fund at the University of Manitoba. The Manitoba Scholarship and Bursary Initiative has made a contribution to this fund. Dr. Kraft, former Head of the Department of Agribusiness and Agricultural Economics, was noted for his ability to explain complex agricultural issues in a straightforward and objective way to students, the agricultural industry, and the general public. The fund will be used to support a number of initiatives that encourage clear and objective discussion of agricultural issues in Canada including, in addition to this Fellowship, the Daryl F. Kraft Undergraduate Student Paper Prize in Agricultural Policy with 5% of the available annual interest, and the Daryl F. Kraft Lecture Series on Agricultural Policy with 25% of the available annual interest.

Seventy percent of the available annual income from the fund will be used to offer one fellowship, to an outstanding graduate student who:

1. is enrolled full-time in the Faculty of Graduate Studies, in the MSc degree in Agribusiness and Agricultural Economics;

2. has obtained a minimum degree grade point average of 3.5 (or equivalent) based on the last 60 credit hours of study;

3. submits an application which consists of a one-page (maximum 500 words) description of their research interest;

4. submits a letter of support from their graduate supervisor or proposed graduate supervisor.

Preference will be given to Canadian citizens, Permanent Residents, and to graduates of Canadian universities.

The fellowship is not automatically renewable but previous recipients may reapply. Recipients may hold the Daryl F. Kraft Fellowship concurrently with any other awards, consistent with policies in the Faculty of Graduate Studies.

Value If the selection committee deems there to be two students of equal merit for this Fellowship, and if the funds are available from the unspent revenue allocation, a second award of equal value can be offered.
