Eligibility In celebration of the retirement of Professor Donna Chow from the Department of Immunology in 2004 an endowment fund was established by her family, friends and colleagues to support an award that encourages the academic excellence and outstanding achievements in leadership, service and research of graduate students focusing on immunology. The fund is initially valued at $7,832.

Each year 33% of the available annual income will be used to offer one scholarship to a graduate student who:

  • (1) is enrolled full-time in the Faculty of Graduate Studies in a master’s or doctoral program offered by the Department of Immunology at the University of Manitoba;
  • (2) has achieved a minimum grade point average of 3.0 based on the last 60 credit hours (or equivalent) of study; and
  • (3) has achieved the highest cumulative grade in the required core courses in the Department of Immunology.
  • Each year 33% of the available annual income will be used to offer one scholarship to a graduate student who:

  • (1) is enrolled full-time in the Faculty of Graduate Studies in a master’s or doctoral program offered by the Department of Immunology at the University of Manitoba;
  • (2) has achieved a minimum grade point average of 3.0 based on the last 60 credit hours (or equivalent) of study; and
  • (3) has demonstrated outstanding achievements in leadership, service, public outreach and/or science communication.
  • In order to demonstrate how they meet criteria (3), applicants must submit:

  • (i.) a nomination letter or email from an Immunology Faculty member, staff or trainee that describes the impact in leadership, service, public outreach and/or science communication;
  • (ii.) a current CV; and
  • (iii.) any relevant supporting documentation.
  • Each year 33% of the available annual income will be used to offer one scholarship to a graduate student who:

  • (1) is enrolled full-time in the Faculty of Graduate Studies in a master’s or doctoral program offered by the Department of Immunology at the University of Manitoba;
  • (2) has achieved a minimum grade point average of 3.0 based on the last 60 credit hours (or equivalent) of study; and
  • (3) has demonstrated outstanding research accomplishments.
  • In order to demonstrate how they meet criteria (3), applicants must submit:

  • (i.) a nomination letter or email from an Immunology Faculty member, staff or trainee that describes the impact of the research conducted;
  • (ii.) a current CV; and
  • (iii.) any relevant supporting documentation.

    Application Details The selection committee will have the discretion to offer or not offer one or all of the awards annually based on the quality of applications from the candidates. Any remaining funds will be reinvested into the capital of the fund.

    The Dean of the Max Rady College of Medicine (or designate) and the Dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies (or designate) will ask the Head of the Department of Immunology to name the selection committee for this award.
