An endowment fund of $12,500 has been established at the University of Manitoba through a contribution from the Don Mazankowski Scholarship Foundation. Beginning in 2005, the fund will provide an award which will be offered to the student who:
is enrolled full-time in the Faculty of Graduate Studies (Master’s or Ph.D. program) at the University of Manitoba, specifically in the Faculty of Medicine; or is in the Postgraduate Medical Education Program, either as a resident or as a fellow;
has achieved a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.5 (or equivalent) in the graduate program;
has conducted research in the area of oncology and has been judged by the selection committee as having submitted for publication the best peer-reviewed research paper in that academic session in the area of Oncology.
The annual income generated by this fund will be matched by the Edward Eric Hildebrand and Ann Palmer Hildebrand Memorial Scholarship Fund and the total funds will be offered as the annual award. The recipients of this award may hold it with any other award. The Right Honourable Don Mazankowski Award for Excellence in Oncology Research will be advertised in conjunction with the Caroline A. Cope Award for Excellence in Oncology Research.
