Eligibility This fund was established at the time of the official opening of the new Architecture Building at The University of Manitoba by former students in Architecture and Interior Design, to honour Professor John A. Russell, for his outstanding leadership, devotion and contribution to the development of the Faculty of Architecture and Interior Design, at the University. The Manitobe Scholarship and Bursary Initiative has made a contribution to the fund. Awards shall be made annually, and shall be known as the John A. Russell Alumni Bursaries. The fund will be used to offer five bursaries or equal value; one to an undergraduate student and one to a graduate student in each of the four Master's degree programs offered by departments in the Faculty of Architecture. The bursaries shall be available to students who:
  • have successfull completed either a) the second year of the Environmental Design program or b) the first year of the Master of Architecture, Master of City Planning, Master of Interior Design, or Master of Landscape Architecture.
  • proceed n the next ensuing session in a course leading to the degree of Bachelor of Environmental Design, Master of Architecture, Master of City Planning, Master of Interior Design, or Master of Landscape Architecture
  • have demonstrated a minimum sessional grade-point average of 3.0 and a minimum grade of 3.0 in the Design course completed during the previous year of study
  • have demonstrated financial need on the standard University of Manitoba bursary application form
  • If a recipient fails to register as required in the next ensuing annual session, the bursary shall revert to the next qualified candidate. Should there be not suitable candidates in one or more programs in any year, the selection committee shall have the privilege of awarding the bursaries to one or more students who may need emergency assistance, or of holding the bursaries until the next regular time of award and awarding them in addition to the currently avaiable amount. Where the award is used for emergency assistance, the selection committee shall use its disrection as to whether or not the above trems shall apply.
