Eligibility Steel Structures Education Foundation (SSEF), an initiative of the Canadian Institute of Steel Construction, will provide $3,000 annually to offer scholarships for architecture students at the University of Manitoba. The purpose of the scholarships is to support education related to the structural steel industry. The donor has agreed to fund the scholarships for a term of three years, beginning in the 2010-2011 academic session, and may elect to renew the commitment for a subsequent three-year term.
One or more scholarships will be offered to students who:
  • are enrolled full-time in either the Faculty of Graduate Studies, in the Master of Architecture program, or in the Faculty of Architecture, in the Bachelor of Environmental Design, Architecture Masters Preparation (AMP) program;
  • have achieved a minimum degree grade point average of 3.0 (or equivalent) based on the last 60 credit hours of study (or equivalent);
  • have demonstrated strengths in research (thesis, studio project, or course work) focused on the use and design of steel products, which will be determined based on a review of each candidate’s portfolio.
    The selection committee will have the discretio to determine the number and value of awards offered each year.
    Recipients will be asked to provide teh SSEF with a digital copy of their work. All copyrights will remain the property of the recipient.
    About the Steel Structure Education Foundation
    The Steel Structures Education Foundation (SSEF) is a special initiative of the Canadian Institute of Steel Construction (CISC). The SSEF’s mandate is to develop and support steel – related education. The CISC is the national industry organization representing the structural steel, open web steel joists, and steel platework fabricating industries.
