Eligibility In memory ofBabs Asper (B.A./54), Dr. Arthur V. Mauro has established an endowment fund at the University of Manitoba, with an initial gift in 2011.
The fund will be used to offer a scholarship for students in the Arthur V. Mauro Centre for Peace and Justice who embody public service based on a record of community service. The available annual interest from the fund will be used to offer one scholarship to a student who:
  • is enrolled full-time in the Faculty of Graduate Studies, in the first year of eitherthe Joint M.A. in Peace and Conflict Studies or the Ph.D. in Peace and Conflict Studies;
  • has achieved a minimum degree grade point average of 3.5 (or equivalent) based on the last 60 credit hours of study (or equivalent);
  • embodies public service based on a demonstrated record of community service.
    The Scholarship is renewable for one year for Master's students, and up to three years for Doctoral students provided that the recipient:
  • continues to be registered full-time in the Faculty of Graduate Studies, in either the Joint M.A. in Peace and Conflict Studies or the Ph.D. in Peace and Conflict Studies;
  • maintains a minimum degree grade point average of 3.5 (or equivalent) based on the last 60 credit hours of study (or equivalent);
  • is in good standing in his or her degree program.

    Tenable at University of Manitoba, only one recipient may hold the Scholarship at anyone time.

    Application Details Candidates will be required to submit an application that includes (i) a current academic transcript(s), (ii) a statement (maximum 500 words) describing their record of community service, and (iii) two letters of recommendation (maximum 500 words each); one from a faculty member at a post-secondary institution and one from a representative of the broader community. The letters should describe how the candidate has met the requirements set out in criterion (3).
