In memory of Jenny Fraser, a graduate student in the Master of Science in Family Social Sciences program at the time of her death in 2010, family and friends have established an endowment fund at the University of Manitoba to offer a scholarship in her name.
The purpose of the award is to encourage the development of professionals who are dedicated to improving the lives of at-risk or underpriveleged children and youth through preventive community-based research. The available annual interest from the fund will be used to offer one scholarship to a graduate student who:
- is enrolled full-time in the Faculty of Graduate Studies, in the second year of the Master of Science in the Department of Community Health Sciences (As of July 1, 2015 the Department of Family Social Sciences, Faculty of Human Ecology merged with the Department of Community Health Sciences, Max Rady College of Medicine, Rady Faculty of Health Sciences);
- has completed at least 50 percent of the required course work for the degree;
- has achieved a minimum degree grade point average of 3.5 (or equivalent) based on the last 60 credit hours (or equivalent);
- is pursuing thesis research that pertains to the improvement of the lives of at-risk or under priveleged children and youth (birth to 18 years) and their families through preventive community-based research.
Normally, the Jenny Fraser Memorial Award may not be held with any other award valued at $2,000 or greater, including University awards and external awards funded by provincial or federal government programs. |
