Mindel and Tom Olenick have established an endowment fund of $400,000 at The University of
Manitoba, in conjunction with a contribution from the Manitoba Scholarship and Bursary Initiative, in appreciation of and to recognize the clinical work of Dr. Charles Bernstein, Dr. Keevin Bernstein, Dr.
Jeremy Lipschitz, and members of the Max Rady College of Medicine. A maximum of three awards will be offered annually to students working in the area of renal and gastrointestinal diseases and related
disorders. The selection committee will determine the number of awards and the value of each award to be given out each year, based upon the earnings of the fund.
The studentships shall be offered to students who:
(1) are enrolled in either:
(a) the Faculty of Graduate Studies, in an M.Sc or Ph.D. program delivered by the Max Rady College of Medicine; or
(b) the Postgraduate Medical Education (PGME) program as a resident or fellow;
(2) have achieved:
(a) as a graduate student, a minimum grade point average of 3.0 (or equivalent) based on the last 60 credit hours of post-secondary study; or
(b) as a resident or fellow, in good standing in the PGME program, and;
(3) will conduct research into renal or gastrointestinal diseases and related disorders; and
(4) have been recommended by the Selection Committee in the Max Rady College of Medicine.
Application for this award will normally consist of a letter to the Dean of the Max Rady College of
Medicine (or designate) together with a research proposal and a supporting letter from the proposed
supervisor. Recipients are expected to conduct research for a twelve-month period. Recipients of the award may re-apply once for the continuation of the award.
