Eligibility The Samit and Reshma Sharma Foundation established an endowment fund at the University of Manitoba in 2023. The purpose of the fund is to reward the academic achievements of graduate students in Human Rights and/or Peace and Conflict Studies. Each year, beginning in 2024-2025, the available annual income from the fund will be used to offer one or more scholarships to graduate students who:


(1) are enrolled full-time in the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies in a master’s or doctoral program at the University of Manitoba;

(2) have achieved a minimum grade point average of 3.5 based on the last 60 credit hours (or equivalent) of study; and

(3) are currently undertaking research with a focus in human rights, social justice, or peace and conflict studies.

Preference in selection will be given to students who are working in collaboration with the Canadian Museum for Human Rights.

Candidates will be required to submit an application that includes:


a) a current academic transcript;

b) a summary of their thesis proposal (maximum 500 words);

c) a statement of why they believe their research will be world class and how their research will benefit society;
and
d) a letter of support from their thesis supervisor.

The selection committee will have the discretion to determine the number and value of the awards based on the available funds.
