In memory of Adalsteinn Kristjansson an endowment fund has been established at the University of Manitoba in 2023. The purpose of the fund is to support graduate students travelling to undertake research. Each year, beginning in 2024-2025, the available annual income from the fund will be used to offer one or more scholarships at minimum value of $2,500 to graduate students who:
(1) are enrolled full-time in both the Fall 2026 and Winter 2027 terms in the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies in any year of study in any master's or doctoral program offered at the University of Manitoba;
(2) have achieved a minimum grade point average of 3.5 based on the last 60 credit hours (or equivalent) of study; and
(3) are travelling outside of Winnipeg to undertake research for their thesis or practicum
IMPORTANT NOTE:Travel to attend conferences or present research is NOT eligible under this scholarship. The purpose of the scholarship is to support students who travel outside of Winnipeg to undertake research that is directly related to their thesis or dissertation. Eligible activities typically involve conducting research at another institution, laboratory, field site, or similar location where the research itself is being carried out.
The selection committee has the discretion to determine the number and value of awards offered each year based on the available funds, as outlined in the criteria above.
In any given year that there are no successful applicants, the income will be returned to the capital fund.
The Dean of the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies (or designate) will name the selection committee for this award.
