Faculty of Science

Section 4:  Students Newly Admitted or Transiting to the

          Faculty of Science

4.1 Students Transiting from University 1 to Science

July 19 - August 13, 2002
From Day 5 of the initial access period, access to UMREG is set aside for students transiting from University 1 to Science, and for students continuing in Science.

Your access date is determined by your cumulative grade point average (CGPA) at the end of the 2001-2002 Regular Session. The last two digits of your student number determine your access time within these dates.

See the beginning of this chapter for information on the access tables to be used by Science students. As a reference, your time will fall on one of the access dates noted below:

Table Number Cumulative Grade Point Average Access Dates
1 3.00 or greater July 19, 22, 23
2 between 2.50 and 2.99 July 24, 25, 26, 29
3 between 2.00 and 2.49 July 31, August 1, 2, 6
4 less than 2.00 August 7, 8, 9, 12

4.2 Students Transferring from other Colleges, Universities and
Technical Institutes, and All Newly Admitted Second Degree
      Students

July 30, 2002
Day 12 of the initial access period is set aside for students newly admitted to Science on the basis of post secondary institutions other than the University of Manitoba, and all students registering for the first time in their second degree program. Call UMREG from July 2, 2002 to determine your initial access time.

4.3 Students Transferring from other Faculties or Schools
       Within the University of Manitoba

July 19 - August 13, 2002
You will register according to your latest cumulative grade point average at the end of the 2001-2002 Regular Session; the same as students continuing in the Faculty of Science.

Because students whose last registration was in the Continuing Education Division will not have a cumulative grade point average calculated by the UMREG system, all new applicants to the Faculty of Science from the Continuing Education Division should contact the Faculty of Science general office to determine their correct access time.

4.4 Students Continuing in the Faculty of Science

July 19 - August 13, 2002
From Day 5 of the initial access period, access to UMREG is set aside for students continuing their studies in Science, as well as University 1 students transiting to Science. Your access date is determined by your cumulative grade point average (CGPA) at the end of the 2001-2002 Regular Session. If you were not in attendance in this session, your access day will be based on your last reported CGPA. The last two digits of your student number will determine your access time within these dates. Remember that Major and Honours students must obtain department approval prior to registration.

4.5 University Written English and Mathematics Requirement

All students admitted since 1997-98 Regular Session are required to complete, within the first 60 credit hours of their programs, a minimum of a course of at least three credit hours with significant content in written English, and a minimum of a three credit hour course with significant content in mathematics.

Individual programs may have designated specific written English and mathematics courses to fulfil this requirement. See the program listings in the Undergraduate Calendar for details.

Courses and/or specific course sections which satisfy the written English requirement are identified by the letter "W" in the course descriptions and in the timetable; courses that satisfy the mathematics requirement are identified by the letter "M."
