Section 6: Registration Information for Science Students by
Student Type
6.7 Special Students
Students who have completed a degree may be admitted to Science as Special Students to take courses for their personal interest. Such students will:
- Have all courses classified as "SS," which means that courses will not generate a grade point average.
- Register on or after August 15.
6.8 Visiting Students
You must have a Letter of Permission from your home university before you can register. Present this letter to the Science general office to gain access to UMREG. Visiting student registration begins August 15, 2002.
6.9 Students in Special Academic Situations
Academic Suspension: Students returning from either a one or a two year suspension must contact a Science student advisor prior to registration by telephone. A Science student advisor will explain what is needed to remain in good academic standing in the Faculty of Science.
Probation: If your last assessment was "On Probation," you are strongly advised to see a Science student advisor prior to registration by telephone so that you can be advised how to clear your probationary status. Failure to clear probationary status results in Academic Suspension for one year. Failure to clear probationary status after return from a one year Academic Suspension results in Academic Suspension for two years.
Required to Withdraw: If your last assessment was "Required to withdraw from the Honours or the Major program," you must consult a Science student advisor prior to registration by telephone. An advisor will discuss your new degree plans, determine your eligibility for your desired program and change your university records accordingly.
Students on "Hold": If your records are on "Hold" your are prevented from any registration transaction until you have cleared this status.
6.10 Students Who Cannot Register by Telephone
Auditors: You must have written approval from the instructor of the course before you can register. You will register in person at the Science general office. Note that the Faculty of Arts will prohibit you from registering in its courses until August 15, 2002.
6.11 Registration Revisions
By Telephone: All students (except Auditors) must revise their registration by telephone, except for the addition of courses taken as a special student, as an auditing student or as challenge for credit within a degree program. Your department must approve any changes to your Major or Honours program.
See The Schedule for deadline dates for course revisions, withdrawals, and fee refunds.
6.12 Major and Honours Students (and Co-Operative Option Students)
You may revise your registration by telephone prior to obtaining departmental approval, but you should obtain departmental approval of these changes before classes start. Failure to obtain departmental approval may make you ineligible to graduate. Prior to declaring graduation, your program must be approved by a Science student advisor.
Honours students are reminded that they are not permitted to register in less than 24 credit hours in the Regular Session.
6.13 In Person
Only those students who cannot revise their registration by telephone may process revisions in person in the Science General Office, 239 Machray Hall.
6.14 Laboratory Registration
Note that UMREG prompts you to register in an appropriate laboratory section. If a course has a laboratory and lecture section listed in the Timetable, register for both sections. Students with laboratory exemptions must register in B98 or B99 as appropriate.
