Section 3:  University 1 Students Transiting to Science for the

2002-2003 Regular Session

If you have completed 24 credit hours or more in University 1, either by the end of the 2001-2002 Regular Session or the 2002 Summer Session, you can "transit" into Science from University 1. "Transiting" is simply the UMREG procedure that changes your faculty of registration to Science from University 1. There is no charge for transiting.

You may officially declare your transition from University 1 to Science through UMREG, the telephone registration system, anytime from June 15, 2002. However, actual registration for Science students for the 2002-2003 Session does not start until July 19.

Information about registration including the operation of UMREG is found in chapter, the Telephone Registration System, of this Guide.

To transit, call UMREG request "Function 2" (Other Functions) at the beginning of your telephone call. You will be guided through the steps to finalize your transition. Simply enter that your intended faculty is Science "02."

All students are automaically registered in the General program in Science. If you intend to declare a major or an honours program, you must have written approval of your registration prior tp telephone registration. See the section on Major and Honours registration.

If your final grades are known when you transit, your academic status will be determined at the point of this declaration, and you will hear a message that indicates that you have either been admitted "In Good Standing" or "On Probation." If your final grades are not known, you will be advised that your academic standing will be determined once your final grades (and/or transfer credits) are known.

If you completed 30 hours or more by the end of the 2002 Summer Session, you must exit University 1 on your next registration, regardless of your academic performance to date. (For example, even if you have failed 30 hours, you must transit from University 1. You will be admitted to Science "On Probation," and would have to work very hard to improve your academic standing to avoid academic suspension.)

If you completed 24 or 27 credit hours, you may transit to Science or remain in University 1 for your next registration, again regardless of your academic performance to date.

If you are unsure whether to transit to Science or to remain in University 1, or are unclear about your academic status, please contact a student advisor in Science or in University 1.

If you wish to declare your intention to transit to Science at the same time you wish to determine your initial access time, or at the same time you are permitted to register according to the initial access times for registration, you must first request "Function 2" (Other Functions) and follow the instructions on UMREG. At the end of these transactions, you may link to the registration function by following instructions given.
