The Registration System: Telephone and Website (UMREG)
SECTION 4: Getting Started
4.1 Your Student Number
When you first access UMREG, your temporary PIN is your date of birth. When prompted, enter your date of birth numerically as YY MM DD (year, month, day). For example, if your birthday is February 8, 1981, you enter 810208 as your first PIN.
You will immediately be required to change your PIN to another sequence of numbers for your security. This new PIN must be a sequence of six numbers different from your date of birth. Choose a sequence of six numbers that cannot be easily guessed by others, and remember to memorize your PIN. Also, keep your PIN number confidential. You are responsible for changes made to your registration using your Student number and PIN.
You can change your PIN again, and as often as you wish, through UMREG.
If you have difficulty with your PIN, call Student Records at (204) 474 9420 for help.
On the telephone, you can find out your initial registration access time by calling UMREG from June 1 to July 16 between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. Select the “initial registration access” function by pressing “3” on the telephone number pad and then follow instructions.
On the web, proceed as though you were intending to register, anytime after June 1. Sign on, select the session and faculty. The system will indicate the date and time that you may register.
On the telephone, if you are a new undergraduate student to the University of Manitoba, you can find out your initial registration access time by calling UMREG between July 2 and July 16. Select the “initial registration access” function by pressing “3” on the telephone number pad and then follow instructions.
On the web, proceed as though you were intending to register, anytime on or after July 2. Sign on, select the session and faculty. The system will indicate the date and time that you may register.
Access to UMREG for registration will be accepted only on or after your initial registration access time.
University 1 students must attend a Start@U1 registration information session in order to register.
If you are newly admitted to a faculty or school following University 1, or are transferring from one program to another, see the chapter of this Guide relating to your new faculty or school.
The criteria for registration times are described in your faculty or school section. If you attempt to register before your assigned initial registration access time, your access will be blocked.
Your initial registration access period lasts 24 hours. During this time you may call UMREG without restriction during hours of operation.
When your initial registration access period of 24 hours if over, you may still access UMREG, but only after 5:30 p.m. and until the system closes for the day at 11:30 p.m.
During the first 21 days of telephone registration, access to UMREG is governed by the initial registration access appointments, and afterwards to the hours of 5:30 to 11:30 p.m. At the end of this 21 day period, access to UMREG opens and you are allowed free access any time the system is operational.
