Faculty of Science

Section 6: Important Information applicable to all students

6.1 Space Availability and Allocation
Most space in Science and Arts courses except that which is reserved for other faculties and schools is available on AURORA STUDENT from the beginning of the registration period; i.e., space is not filtered in on a daily basis.

Space allocation: AURORA STUDENT will confirm that you have been successfully registered and will assign space for you. It will not allow you to register in a section that is full or unavailable. Make note of the responses to ensure that the transaction is complete.

6.2 Repeated courses
The Aurora Student system will block any registration in a course in which you have previously earned a grade. You must therefore contact the Faculty of Science General Office prior to registration for permission to repeat a course. Any course in which you have earned a grade of "C" or higher cannot be repeated without approval of a Science Student Advisor. Registration in courses that cannot be held for credit with another course previously completed (for example, if you wish to take BIOL 1020 and have previously taken BIOL 1000) must also be approved through the Faculty of Science General Office.

6.3 Courses offered by other faculties and schools acceptable for credit in Science
Students are reminded that in most cases a maximum of 36 credit hours from outside Science can contribute to degree credit.

The list of other faculties' courses acceptable for credit in Science is printed at the end of the Science chapter in the Undergraduate Calendar. Students in an Honours program and/or other degree students who wish to register for courses not on this list must see a Science Student Advisor. Registration in such courses normally requires written permission of the department offering the course prior to registration. Refer to the other faculties' timetables included in this Guide for registration information.

6.4 College Students
Students who are members of St. John's or St. Paul's College must contact their college to determine the status of their membership.

6.5 Other reminders detailed at the front of this Guide
Please check the front sections of this guide for information on:

6.6 What AURORA STUDENT Cannot do:
AURORA STUDENT will not check degree requirements. You are responsible for knowing the requirements of your degree. Consult a Science Student Advisor for advice and assistance if degree requirements are unclear.

You cannot add or change a course classification through AURORA STUDENT. Therefore, if you are an undergraduate student and wish to take a course as a Special Student in your degree, as an Auditor or as a Challenge for Credit, you must add this course in person in the Science General Office within the normal deadlines for such activity.
